
LOT 231. A cased military cross awarded to Captain Sydney Devinish Rhind, Medical Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty for three days and nights at his regimental aid post, repeatedly having to attend to men outside under heavy fire. He also organised parties of stretcher-bearers for their removal. On reverse of cross is inscribed ‘Capt. S. D. Rhind / N.Z.M.C. Passchendale Oct. 1917.’ The medal comes with his paybook, American visa, telegrams and ration book, ‘Fredrich August Medaille’, Verdun, 21 Feb 1916 medal, N.Z.M.C. badge, Tria Juncta Uno Officers star and two buttons.
